I kinda think the oilers over did it gutting the team starting around the time they dealt Visnovsky. They started moving players around for picks and garbage. Never seemed to win any trades and just wound up with a room full of strangers. Probably forgot about the bird in hand saying. I guess Smyth should be a leader but....?
I just think a little continuity can go a long way. Gio is not just "veteran", he's a Calgary Flame veteran. If having a warrior like Gio play out his years here and never getting a big trade return on him avoids the ####e brewery that's bubbling away in Edmonton, well I'm all for it.
