I don't see the correlation with the Oilers? Who was the leader on their team jettisoned that has them in their current state?
They've made mistakes, but trading a Gio isn't one of them.
Also, I don't see Gio as a part of any problem, just so I'm clear. As an asset, he's a legitimate Opportunity. The fact that he is so valuable is exactly why he'll fetch so much more toward the rebuild than any other aging asset currently on the team.
I'd love to see him moved to PIT for Maata+, or something of that ilk. I haven't watched Maata play so I'm just using him as an example. I'd like to see him moved for a player that has a legit shot of being a replacement plus other assets such as prospects or picks.
I'd prefer a more aggressive style of rebuild...perhaps riskier but also potentially quicker.
