I see what your saying, but trading Gio would be a huge mistake. The Flames are rebuilding more then the team. They are rebuilding their identity, their culture, attitude, everything. Thinking that moving Gio is smart asset management is incredibly short sighted. Moving him would move the Flames back 3 or 4 years. Mostly because the young players coming up would lose that role model, that player that teaches them how to play the right way. Yeah you can bring in some veterans, but bringing in veterans that are at the tail end of their career you get floaters, players that are only playing for the money, and you get the last 4 years of the country club years.
When I watch this team I see it as Gio's team. It's not the most talented, the most skilled team, but like Gio, the team works hard, and does what it needs to do to compete... Trade Gio, and the team goes with him.
