Seriously, though, can't you just keep the receipt, then return it after Christmas if you find a better deal and your wife agrees that it's worth waiting to open it? It seems like a much better option than going into Christmas giftless.

See, I love Walmart, and the low low prices I get on Orange Juice and gaunch. But I had a bad experience at a Future Shop once, and dislike them. Since I dislike them, that makes it perfectly OK, and morally acceptable for me to return it there for a profit. Because they are bad people. Didn't you know the rules on how to make a fraudulent return un-fraudulented?
