However, it's the BACK end of the trailer that has to clear the intersection. Since they are turning, they can't go quickly, like most other vehicles can. Some of you should try to drive a long vehicle before to criticize how they drive. Some things seem weird, but are done simply out of necessity.
It isn't like trucks are the only people that try to turn left way after the light turns, either.

hahahaha ok then. I've driven plenty of long vehicles and pulled many a trailer, but that's immaterial.
The turn light is red, the through light is green, they have plenty of time to stop, but they don't. I regularly watch 2 semis drive straight through the red light.
If you don't believe me go watch that intersection for 10 minutes.
