That happens to my computer as well, I have to go to the Control Panel -> Performance and Maintenance -> System -> Hardware and uninstall my sound card.

Then back to Control Panel -> Printers and Other Hardware and just select Add Hardware and your computer should add it automatically.

Hopefully this works... I have to do almost every time my computer is turned off so if anyone knows a more permanent solution I'd be interested too.
