“He told me that on every team he’s been on, he’s had skilled players. He also said that he wants to have players like that because he just can’t have a whole team of rough players. You need those (talented) players.

“You can tell by the teams that he managed lately — there’s always room for guys like me. I feel that he really wants me to be on the team.”

Everybody remembers Burke, in his pre-season address, roasting Baertschi. (“I see big holes and I see a lack of commitment.”) Now, apparently, supervisor and employee are on the same page.

“We went over a few things,” Baertschi, five foot 11 and 190 pounds, continued. “At this point, he just wants to help me — and help me to be a better player, so he can use me at some point.”
