Advent Children is quite good. Much better than the abomination that was The Spirits Within, although not up to the same quality, being lower budget and all. Advent Children is also a film sequel to Final Fantasy 7.
Final Fantasy 11 is online, but as far as I know, 13 is not.

Correct. Each Final Fantasy series has its own stories and protagonists/antagonists, but the story usually follows a similar theme, i.e. you need to save the world from an evil dictator/wizard/sorceress.
Besides having Cid in almost every one, some of the monsters, such as Marlboro, Coeurl, Cactuar, Chocobo, repeat in each game.
The most popular FF games are probably #7 and #10.
