I suppose that's a fair point. It just seems silly to leave a lane wide-open, just in case someone wants to go faster.

I guess its true that its not my place to police how fast people go, so if someone wants to go 140km/hr then it is what it is. Probably a fair comment.

You're just being ridiculous. No one thinks that the left lane ought to always be clear just in case there is an emergency vehicle that needs passage. Obviously people should get out of their way, but you don't have to drive in the right hand lane at all times in case of that possibility.
