This move has nothing to do with the Flames' current record this season or any sort of "win now" mantra coming from ownership. I think Feaster has been on the block since we changed direction and began the rebuild. I don't think the organization has felt that he was the man to lead this process and ownership is doing their due-diligence by bringing in a guy like Burke to evaluate the Flames' management. I get the impression that they're going about this in a very thorough manner.
As an aside, the goal is always to win. You want to see improvements with your team but that doesn't mean that you expect to be a contender nor does it mean selling the farm for ageing vets. Accepting mediocrity/complacency is how you turn your team into the Oilers. We need to instill good habits in our young players and develop a positive, winning culture in our locker room. Getting on top of issues like maintaining leads in the third are something you work on immediately not five years from now when all your young star players are at the tail end of their ELCs.
In regards to Baerschi, I don't think (or hope) he's on the trading block. If anything I would expect him to be treated similarly to Kadri in Toronto. Perhaps he'll be sent down to the Heat to work on his game and improve his play if the Flames aren't happy with his development.
