Fans will be angry in the short term, but I think Emery and Trestman feel secure enough with their jobs to take a longer term look on this. If Cutler plays terribly, he's likely not back as a Bear going forward. If they don't play him they either franchise him and have a controversy all year next year, or let him go and watch him thrive without being sure either way. It's not like the Bears were guaranteed the Division, they are still essentially a game back of Detroit and a half game up on Green Bay and facing a must win against them later on.
