Come on dude, that's silly, door to door is just as descriptive. The delivery guy goes to each door on the block, hence he is going door to door for his deliveries.
Even if we took your silly interpretation of what it means, why would "door to door" necessarily mean from one house to another? I'm pretty sure dairys have doors don't they. It isn't "House door, to house door".
