Great for Cornish and by far the right choice in my view.

Not to make this a Lou Marsh argument, but since there is no thread, the Raonic merits seemed odd to me as it basically has Canada behind another 7-8 countries with better athletes at least considering he is at best the 10th best tennis player in the world and he did so poorly (for someone who is considered for the Lou Marsh award) in the Slams seems pretty tough to give the award to him.

He had a great year compared to other past Canadian Tennis players but is far, far away from being best Tennis player in the world and not even one of the top 5 best or in the argument.

I get the "depth of field" argument but I think Canada has enough athletes in deep fields that are the best in the world that we shouldn't reward guys for being better than past Canadians and compare what they do with others in their sport. If you are not the best in your sport or damn near close hard for me to see you as the top athlete in Canada.
