Sure you've got Yakapov, Eberle and RNH playing in key roles and not being great at it. Yakapov when he's not disinterested is avoiding hits at the worst time, RNH and Eberle look like one dimensional small players.
Justin Schultz in any roll is just a disaster.
Part of that of course is playing for a club with no depth and little help on the way. But another part is that RNH and Eberle got overhyped because of their draft position.
Hall is probably going to be very good for the Oilers if he survives.
but other then that the other big players while putting up numbers have a direct responsibility in the Oilers lack of success because they can't thrive in those roles as you stated.

Hall is the worst for backchecking, and makes the stupidest mistakes. Maybe he'll develop and apps that things, but RNH is far smarter and actually backchecks
