Hypothetical scenario:
Bama is undefeated this year going into the playoffs and plays some 11-1 team.
The 11-1 team has an insanely lucky hail mary win and a very lucky win against Alabama and all of a sudden they are going to the NC game because they lost early and have 1 loss?
If the game is played 10 times between Alabama and the 11-1 team, Alabama wins 8, probably 9 or 10 if on a neutral field or in Tuscaloosa.
It's the same damn thing.....

It doesn't really change all that much and I don't think a play-off is cure all solution to everything and we can come up with hypotheticals to point that out all day.
But at least in that scenario Alabama made it to a play-off and lost there and isn't out because their loss came in November while Auburn lost early.
Not much of a difference to some losing in regular season or losing in the play-offs but for me I would prefer the shot at least in the play-offs rather than just being out because there is nothing like that set up.
