He's still a 60 point center and a good leader. He would be a good mentor for all the kids coming up. Yes he makes 6.67 for the next 6 seasons. That is a lot right now in terms of cap, but in 3 years, that'll look a lot more like a 5 million dollar contract. Plus the last 3 years he only makes 1 million dollars each year. That will make him very very attractive to teams looking to hit the floor but don't want to spend a lot.
If we move Cammalleri out, which I really hope we do in terms of the rebuild, getting Richards off the Rags would replace that presence on the team and would be a better player than the other UFA guys. It's also not like we are anywhere near the cap, and are not likely going to be near it any time soon.

No way you trade for him, his contract is more toxic than Luongo's. Let the Rangers buy him out, and talk to him as a UFA. I think the Rangers would rather compliance buyout him than trade him too.
