I haven't done an armchair GM in a while and thought it would be fun to create a thread dedicated to it. You can use the armchair GM from capgeek to get your roster just right! --

With the rumours of Gardiner possibly being available and Kulikov peaking Calgary's interest I have to admit that getting both of those 23 year olds on this team would be nothing short of amazing and something that the Flames should definitely be pursuing.
Kulikov being knowingly disgruntled and having been called out by the coaching staff + his possible flight risk status seemingly makes him an easier target to acquire. The Flames could try and turn a package with a prospect like Wotherspoon + Backlund + 3rd into Kulikov or something that is relevant to that. It is a somewhat steep price considering the variables surrounding Kulikov but he would be coming in to a bigger role and better market which could challenge more than the wasteland that is the Panthers. Swap a 5th as well for the 3rd and it looks close:
To Florida:
Wotherspoon
Backlund
3rd
To Calgary:
Kulikov
5th
Gardiner I think, with the Burke connection especially, might be a harder target to land. Something based around a center though would be what is ideal for them. Returning them Stajan isn't enough but Stajan + + MIGHT get it done depending on the + + . The Flames have a lot of D waiting in the wings so trading some of that depth along with swapping for a potential good pick in the 2nd round might get it done. Stajan + Breen + Cundari + 2nd round pick.
To Toronto:
Stajan
Breen
Cundari
2nd
To Calgary:
Gardiner
2nd
Now that leaves us with:
Giordano - Wideman
Kulikov - Gardiner
Smid- Russell
Brodie
At this point we need to look at moving out a top 4 guy that we currently have and even though I like the guy I say the Flames move Wideman to a team like NYR who is looking to add a top 4 D and it would allow them to deal Del Zotto a that point, the need for offense is also growing so I would include Cammalleri at half price to make the dollars work. So my third deal would be Wideman + Cammalleri at half price to NYR for Richards + a 1st round pick. We are relieving NYR of a contract they don't want, especially with the Lunqvist extension and even though the cap hit is big the Flames will need a contract or two like Richards going forward for a few years and with the dealings of Stajan + Backlund the need for a center to guide Monahan is there. The 1st is compensation for taking the worse contract, taking Cammy at half to make it work and helping NYR in two key areas.
To NYR:
Wideman
Cammalleri
To Calgary:
Richards
1st round pick
Line-up moving forward:
