He also mention that in the comic he didn't give the audience a satisfying death for the Governor and that for the show he really wanted to give the audience that satisfying death. He still stated that they didn't make his death "satisfying" because he should not be as memorable a character as someone like Hershel and someone more beloved.
Not showing the final kill shot was the part that was not "satisfying". I even thought for a moment that maybe they would leave him alive to come back. Satisfying to me would have been for Lilly to look down at him, about to shoot him, with him still being alive and then looking over to see the walkers coming. The Governor seeing the walkers coming but not able to move and then the walkers of course eating him alive.
Now that would have been a "satisfying" death. What they did by not even bothering to show the kill shot was what Kirkman was talking about.
