Well they need to do somethign to avoid constantly going in circles when you have an even divide. That was "come to a unanimous agreement or YOU draw rocks". I preferred the build a fire thing in years past but this adds a huge social aspect wrinkle by potentially turning the game on its head. The opening few minutes next week could be very entertaining.
All sorts of balls on display at the end by Tyson. Once Ciera flipped she had very little to lose as she is likely gone next time anyways at this point. Katie is unlikely to make the final 4 as well so she had nothing to lose. But Tyson could have eliminated himself with an idol in his pocket when he could have just agreed with Ciera and eliminated Monica. He'd have an obvious out with the jury by saying "look I couldn't take that chance to eliminate myself from the game. I didn't want to do it but ultimately I had no choice and had to eliminate Monica"
Tyson may have really solidified some votes with a demonstration of him keeping his word with his alliance. But it was a potentially a colossal blunder.
edit: nevermind. The flip side is that Tyson goes along with Ciera and is now outnumbered thus losing control of the game. Drawing rocks was the only way to really remain in control. However, with the idol in his pocket he was guaranteed final 4 with an excellent shot of making the vote. Tough to weigh the odds at the spur of the moment I'm sure.
