As an experiment today...none of us really watch curling right? Yes we can go online to check out who is playing in the olympic trials but at noon there will be a 30 minute pregame. Watch that and see if it's useful or not

You're arguing for something that's already there though. When NFL Sunday stations do their pregame, it's before the early games. The doubleheaders don't really get a show since games finish right when they're about to start. If there's a bit of a break in between, that time is used to recap games. CBC HNIC between game pregame functions exactly the same as CBS/FOX between game pregame.
There's no need for a half hour setup for the next game when that can be done in the show prior to the first game, and a quick setup prior to puck drop for the second game.
