I don't think much of an economy would be started. It seems a lot like the North American west before it was settled by Europeans (excluding the walkers). Warring tribes surviving by hunting and gathering. Society is going to get more and more primitive over time. Transportation will become more difficult as car batteries will only last so long, and with no way to manufacture new ones they will be back to relying on horses.
