What are you talking about, there is 0 in my post about economics, wasn't even discussing that angle.
But since you bring it up, I guarantee the deal made for the NHL rights will be NPV / ROI positive for which ever network is awarded it. It's a money making machine, including after they shell out for the top on air talent.
The fact that CBC bleeds cash has nothing to do with it's hockey coverage. As others have pointed out, the hockey coverage is likely one of a handful of shows that make money for that network. So your suggestion is the struggling network that is losing money, should not invest in the one product guaranteed to make a positive return on their investment? Hope you don't run your own business.
