Before Marc Savard left he had already put up a well above PPG pace in the AHL, had seasons of 53 and 65 points (plus 33 in 56 games) and had put up insane offensive numbers in junior. He was way more established than Backlund.

Brett Hull had 50 points in 52 games for the Flames prior to the trade and 92 in 62 games the year before in the AHL.

St. Louis is a fluke, 1 in 1000 (maybe 10,000) case that shouldn't be used as a comparison to anyone. Plus another guy who had shown a lot more offense (at the AHL level) than Backlund.
