I may not agree with several points JobHopper had to make, but he's right about one thing, y'all are getting your nickers in a twist over it pretty easy. A troll is only allowed to troll if you take the bait.. so why, damn it.. He thinks his points are factual. But so what, many here talk as if everything they spout out is fact.
I'll agree that Brossoit could possess significant value if he develops the tools that he has, but he hasn't yet. At this point in time, neither him nor Horak hold much value in a trade, and the fact that you're trading two unproven, non-NHL players and getting a regular NHL blue liner that led his team in hits and blocked shots, I'd say you're getting about the best return you can back for those two.
As for Jay.. part of a rebuild is patience. You can't be making knee jerk reaction moves after every frustrating game (and even when you want to, often the market just isn't there). I'm happy they've been generally hands-off and allowing this group to try and work through their struggles. Of course Jay wants to improve the team, Burke is here for that reason. But this is a rebuild. You're focused on developing upcoming talent within the organization more than patching the ship with rejects from other teams, waiver wire wash ups and post-apex players that'll just eat up a younger player's minutes.. and in an attempt to what, buy another couple of wins in a season where you've got zero chance at the playoffs anyways? Nah. The patient approach is the right way to go. And if a deal like that with the Oilers comes along where you can pick up a young player with notable value by utilizing your ample cap space while taking advantage of a team without any, then that's the intelligent way to approach those transactions. Don't deal for the sake of dealing (and fixing for 'right now') we need to move past that way of thinking. We're no longer a re-tooling club. Long term has to be the train of thought, here. Can't forget that. And that'll mean taking a lot of punches in the gut along the way (and standing pat through it) cause that's what it'll take for a young club to settle in and figure it out.
