As for the WJC, if the Flames feel that NHL competition and play is best for his development, Monahan should stay in the NHL. I imagine the same reasons the Flames gave for him staying in the NHL vs. returning to junior a month ago would also apply to the WJC.

With the main difference being that he can come back to the NHL after the 10 game WJC stint, whereas once he was returned to junior it was for the season.
Have a feeling if the tournament was in Canada and not Ufa, Russia they decision would be easier to let him go.
