He also reiterated that the deam would make a decision closer to the tournament in mid-to-late December, which is essentially the exact same thing that was said when Sean was announced to be staying in the NHL past 9 games. So McKenzie basically gave no new info when discussing Monahan.
As for the WJC, if the Flames feel that NHL competition and play is best for his development, Monahan should stay in the NHL. I imagine the same reasons the Flames gave for him staying in the NHL vs. returning to junior a month ago would also apply to the WJC.
