I have to disagree. PBP is huge. It's kind of like the soul of hockey. I know you can see the action on the television. But hockey broadcasting comes from the golden age of radio. It's a beautiful memory of an older time.

I grew up in the prairies and so there was a lot of driving around. I can't tell you how many times I listened to Peter Maher deliver a broadcast that was half poetry, half magic, and half edge of your car seat excitement. We are talking about a man who could deliver three halves into one whole, here. A legend.

I hear the words "He shoots-" and I hold my breath and grip the cushion for the split second before the words "HE SCORES!" at which point I explode with excitement of every time I've ever walked to the rink and laced up my skates, every time I've yelled those very words playing street hockey outside my parents home, every memory of my favorite game, my favorite sport, my chosen religion, rushing back like a lightning bolt.

If you take away "He Shoots-- He Scores!" then you take away the soul of hockey.
