Another big advantage that Star Citizen has... CIG doesn't have to "release" until they are completely ready. They can spend tons of time testing and adding content to get the game right before they release.
In that vein, Chris Roberts has said that they likely will launch the dogfighting module as singleplayer first, let people fly and blow up AI. The reasoning for that is that they could just use the stock Crysis multiplayer code but they would prefer to actually get the entire MMO backend that they have planned up and running and start testing the dogfighting module on that, ASAP, so that when it comes time for the persistent universe... the whole MMO side of things has been tested continuously for a year or so.
So it will probably be singleplayer dogfighting in December/January and multiplayer dogfighting afterwards.
