Not sure if anyone watched Talking Dead after but David Morrissey was one of the guests and his view of dumping out the food was that the character doesn't want to be indebted to anyone. That's why he goes and gets the backgammon board and the oxygen, not only for the little girl, who is kind of a proxy Penny but also so he doesn't owe the family anything for taking him in.
Secondly, someone asked him about the Carol angle and whether he could see the Governor and her being on the same team now that Carol had gone over this new "moral line". The question was framed as a hypothetical but the way he answered I thought gave a hint that Carol may actually hook up with the Governor at some point. Maybe I'm reading to much into it, as Hardwick didn't address it but that was my first reaction to his answer.
