If Backlund was playing for another team, he wouldn't be the kind of player we'd be targeting.
We can't start hanging on to guys just because they're young and our guys. Year 1 of the rebuild is where you shed guys that are not part of the future, including prospects.
Backlund is okay for us now, but he doesn't seem to have a role here going forward. While this could of course change, I don't think that's the bet the smart money takes anymore.
Of course you don't trade Backlund just to get rid of him, no rush. But if somebody offers fair value, you trade him, just like you would trade Cammalleri, Stajan or Stempniak, and he's at a point where I think you start dropping his name into conversations to see if there's interest.
