It's become a tenser show, a slower show, it's really well paced. I forget who took over as show runner but he seems to be doing a good show. The Walking Dead has really had a hard time knowing what type of show it is. They've tried to walk the line between cartoony fun violence and this tenser more dramatic thriller style.

Maybe if they continue with this style, the Governor might actually work a whole lot better in season 4.
I agree that it's been a lot slower but I don't know about tense outside of the last episode. Everyone's opinion's differ but I haven't cared for this season outside of the last episode. I think we all knew no main characters would die from the flue so watching these nameless characters die one by one wasn't to me tense. I feel when the show gets too slow it starts to get overly sappy and soap opera like. The writing and acting isn't strong enough to sustain prolonged periods of slow pacing. IMO it's at its best when it's in full action mode like last episode. Obviously it's a bit much to expect every episode to be all action but the show needs to have a good dose of action mixed in to break up the slow stretches.
