Sounds like the Oilers decided goaltending was a massive organizational issue and the trade gets them goaltending for the future (Brossoit) and immediate goaltending via Bryzgalov and get the cap relief they needed to sign him. Lot's to like with Brossoit as he's shown bounce back ability and he also is extremely fit for the position.

Yep. They did try to acquire Schneider. They likely didn't anticipate Dubnyk being so bad this season.

It was certainly a deal worth making for the Flames, but I guess I side on the minority and think more highly of Broissoit than Gillies and Ortio. Time will tell. Berra really isn't a valid comparison since he's older and won't be under team control for too much longer.
