I also think David Morrissey could be a good actor, but in this role he just comes off bad. Some moments he is very good, but most often it is soap opera level acting. He reminds me too much of the Dale like acting and not enough of Hershal. Now that is a case study of someone who has grown into that role as the last episode attested to.
I made the joke to my wife when they panned to him, "I hope the gov ran off into the woods last season and took acting lessons, now he'll return a little more believable and engaging." Then they had the cheese bit at the end to which I said "Nope, guess not"

You know those were previews right? There's probably not going to be a "quick shot" in the actual episode.
Apparently Herschel was originally supposed to die in Season 2, but they liked him so much they killed off Dale instead.
