He had limited mobility, wasn't great at moving the puck, would get occasionally beat badly at the opposition blueline for a breakaway or odd-man rush, would get beat by speed along the boards in his own zone, would take bad penalties. He certainly had some stretches where he was pretty good. But overall he had to be sheltered because of his poor skating and mediocre puck skills. His strengths and weaknesses are somewhat similar to O'Brien's. Sarich had some more spectacular hits but I think O'Brien is more of an agitator.
Add in the fact that our defense was slightly deeper previously with Bouwmeester and you can see how Sarich would be scratched. O'Brien would probably be a frequent scratch too if we still had Bouw.
If we could go back in time I'm sure Feaster would take the Regehr trade back and try and dump Sarich instead. I wanted him gone for years as he was overpaid the whole time until his last contract.
