If Rundblad or Schenn is the "spine" of an Eberle trade then they are getting hosed. I think you are underrating his value.

JVR was traded for Schenn. JVR is at least equal to Eberle.
The Pominville trade was at the deadline. I think that changes things a little.
The Oilers might be able to get a couple of high round picks for Eberle, but they don't need more prospects and light at the end of the (endless tunnel) guys. They need guys that can be plugged into their defense or into net and carry the team. I'm sure Eberle could return a #3-4 defenseman and a pick, but does that get the Oilers over the hump?
My point is that maybe they can get a defenseman that needs a fresh start (Schenn, again, Runblad, etc) who has upside AND another prospect/higher round pick. But they're not going to get the magic pill trading what they have because what they need is basically unavailable.
