It may be a different, but there is a parallel. But I think Vulcan's big point is not whether it's the same thing or not, but the fact that it doesn't really hurt the base of these small government conservative types. And THAT is the scary part. But kinda goes to a lot of my points so far. A good majority of voters, especially in conservative camps, only care about their pocketbooks. Keep the taxes low and everything is completely fine. Even better if you piss off a few elitist latte sippers along the way.
These people would rather live with a crumbling city (or country) than ante up an extra 3% in taxes. Their lack of empathy towards others shows. Even with the mayor they claim to be behind. They profess they are helping him by telling others to get off his back, but if they really wanted to help him, they'd give him the tough love he needs and tell him to get some help. Which is ironic, because they love to tell that to people who don't have money or power, or can help them in any way.
