Obviously it was pretty classless, that, I think, is a sentiment shared by everyone. But the whole "he should go to jail/that is assault" angle is a complete joke. It's hockey, fighting happens in hockey. What happened was not a suspendable offence in any way shape or form.
I'm an admitted supporter of fighting in the NHL, and I fully admit that things like this are embarrassing and really, give fighting a bad reputation, but the over reactionary people out there need to calm down. Jail? Assault? Please. This is hockey. This very same scenario has happened countless times over the last 20, 30, 40 years, and yet somehow THIS is the time someone should go to jail.
Give me a break.
