Agreed - Iginla at his best was a great 3 zone player. People forget how near 'perfect' of a player he was - great shot, good passes, offensive, defensive and physical. He came back regularly and it wouldn't exactly be a rare occurrence that he would dig the puck out for the team in the defensive zone.
Iginla in the last few years has made a lot of people forget that - namely when Keenan took over. (I still say that Darryl's worst mistake was his inability to find a decent coach - but that is another argument I would think).
