Interesting conundrum. Calgary arguably deferred to the ideal image of Iginla while he was here to their own detriment.
All of the things he does shows he is a consummate pro, but the folly of their ways was that he can't be relied on to shoulder the team.
So it is almost (saddeningly) perfect to have traded him. He could still be in and around point per game on a contender, and contribute on the top line, plus function as an experienced leader. But that leadership is an addition to what the team was, not a reason for a cop out.
Same guy, different circumstances. Lucky for a guy like Yzerman that his lifelong franchise was in better shape than Iggy's when he had to accept a change of scene.
