Cimino ruined it. It's a great story ruined on film.
My Dad worked on the set of Heaven's Gate which was Cimino's follow up. He can tell some stories of the craziness and lack of concern for budget by Cimino...and that's just from a lead carpenter (at the time) perspective.
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is a good movie, but you can still feel the Ciminoness in it.
