You don't have to be big to be in good position to intercept passes, put pressure on forwards by backchecking or winning battles for loose pucks using your stick.

You don't have to hit, dump every puck and fumble every pass to be a good defensive player. More about effort, willingness and ability to read the plays.

There's a reason why Datsyuk is one of the best without being the biggest guy out there.
