There is definitely a little more to this than just "FU YEG".
It looks like mistakes were made on both sides. AC is mad because in the Icelandair announcement they believe one of the statements used was critical to LHR (and thus their flight) versus Keflavik with the new route.
However as AC starts to ramp up Rouge more and more they could have already been planning the 3 month stoppage of the flight and this gave them a very convenient excuse to do so.
I doubt we'll ever know the whole story.
