Here's a weird question: what if Alberta says "NO" to the Feds if they go for a cash grab here? What if we just refuse to obey whatever stupid program they invent? What is their recourse? Knocking off subsidies they send to us, or??????

When the Feds thought we were violating the Canada Health Act a few years ago, they fined the province $500,000 per day until it backed down. This came out of our share of the transfer payments.
Alberta just needs to find a way to stop sending transfer payments to Ottawa, and the feds would collapse fast. I wonder how long they could afford to pander to Quebec without our $8 billion a year in transfer payments - twice what Ontario sends. [/b][/quote]
I thought we lose money on transfer payments? No way we get back what we give in... I mean it seems all the feds can do is hit us in the wallet, but what if we just tie up the purse strings? Stop giving them transfer payments.
Stop sending them money of any sort... what do they do? They take us for granted all of the time, but all of a sudden if their cash cow stops producing, what measures can they take? tell us to give them the money, please?
I'd love it if one day our Premier (whomever it may be) tells the Feds to go ###### themselves when they come to us for more money, just to see what their reaction would be.
