if it's not comparing him to Gretzky I can't see how using a term like Gretzky of our times is possible. Because you're using a term that compares Crosby to him

Understand I do get what your are saying, I just don't think Crosby extends past his sport and to see him as the Gretzky of our times really lessens how much the Gretzky of our times was and what he did for our sport. If you didn't know hockey, you still knew who Gretzky was. Thats how big the Gretzky of our times was.

Now don't get me wrong, like many here I would take Mario in a heartbeat over Gretzky just in the same way I would take Toews 10 out of 10 times now... But regardless of personal taste and preference I can't deny the gretzky of our times transcended our sport like no other and to be viewed at that level you need to achieve the same level of acceptance by those outside your own sport
