You're noticing even some of hockey's greats advocate for a ban in fighting. Guys who played before the instigator rule and guys who played when fighting played a much more prominent role than it does in today's game.
It's such an dangerous part of the game. There is next to no fighting in European hockey or international hockey games. And you can't say that the NHL is more physical than the NFL.
I used to love fighting as well, but the league is going to have to take an "NFL" style approach to player safety. Hits are hits and it's a part of the game you have to live with, but fighting will eventually be taken out. The league will just have to do a much better job with discipline dirty players.
