My understanding of pink slime is not that it is simply mechanically separated meat from typically rarely used muscles of the animal but rather meat that you can not used because of significant bacterial contamination unless you kill that bacteria with, well, what amounts to windex. They wash the meat with ammonia and then remove/rinse the ammonia away.

It's personally not something I ever want to eat (and believe me I'm not a hard core anti-processed food guy AT ALL), but that is really quite disgusting.

Personally whether or not McDonalds uses this I just shocked that somehow people still eat at McDonalds and Taco Bell to begin with. Any place you go you will easily find better food for similar price at on off restaurants or smaller more local chains. It constantly amzes me around here how as I look across the street from a Culver's or Freddy's that the parking lot to McDonalds is always full (not saying Culver's or Freddy's are tremendous but the food is several steps above McDs)
