He seems to be in the right place at the right time most of the time, regardless of his speed & skating. That was mentioned a lot in scouting reports last spring/summer. His junior 'highlight reels' were SO boring, but consisted of him doing simple things to make killer plays.
He's adapted so well to the NHL pace so far that I don't see any point sending him to junior for development purposes. The best place for him to grow & hone his skills is right where he is now.
