I look at it differently..
FINALLY Edmonton is holding players accountable, instead of just throwing them up on the top lines and spoon-feeding them. This should have happened with all their picks. That team plays with barely any accountability in their top 6, and they are simply a horrible defensive team - they miss their assignments regularly either through not knowing what their assignment is, or just a lack of effort.
I still think Yakupov is going to be a heck of a player - though Galchenyuk would have been the more ballsy and solid pick for Edmonton. What to do now with Hall and the rest when they don't backcheck, or do the odd terrible turnover? Nothing wrong I think with sitting out a prospect and letting him watch the game from above, while hopefully having someone sit beside him and explain the plays opening up and what should be done.
The Flames (and Hartley) have been making everyone accountable thus far. Sending Baertschi down when he was not ready and not doing what the expectations were wasn't a bad move at all. Sheltering Monahan and Baertschi thus far, and allowing them to slowly earn their minutes is not a bad thing. Throwing them up on the first line and spoon-feeding rookies regardless of performance and mistakes is the way to make a team full of individuals out there.
