I liked the Reinhart pick then (vs Kabanov) and I like it a lot more now. In all likelihood, Reinhart will be a 3rd - 4th liner at best. But he would do whatever it takes for his team.

I'll take that every time over a head case like Kabanov.

The Flames took a long shot pick with Gaudreau, so it's not like they never do it - they just did it at a better time
I agree you can't do it all the time but you can't just look back and say reinhart is a borderline nhlr and kabanov is crashing and say one was a better pick because of outcome in this case. If you do that you end up drafting like sutter did. A whole lot of players with bottom 6 upside.
