Multiple blades give you a closer shave but can cause irritation for some. All major marketing campaigns focus on the "close shave" and nothing else. If you have sensitive skin and are prone to razor burn then I'd suggest giving a safety razor a try. If not and you think that the Mach 3 works for you, then stick with it.
I used to use a Sensor Excel (2 blades) and switched to a safety razor years ago due to persistent irritation and razor burn. The few times I've gone back to multiple blades haven't worked out very well for me.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to shaving. Lots of variables at play. But the most important thing is that if what you are doing works, then stick with it. You can always experiment with different creams, brushes, etc, but if the blade works, then stick with it.
